As an extension of their 8th-grade March Madness project, our SMCMS students took their learning one step further with a special virtual visit from ECC alumnus Aaron Lanzel, Class of 2025, who is currently attending The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Aaron shared firsthand insight into his experience at a Catholic university, giving students a glimpse into campus life and the unique culture at CUA. He even provided a quick virtual tour of the exterior of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, one of the most beautiful and well-known landmarks associated with the university.

During his virtual visit, Aaron spoke about what it is like to attend a Catholic university and how faith continues to play an important role in his daily life. He shared, “When you live in a place like D.C., there are so many opinions flying around. I look to my faith to help make sure I am forming my own opinions about how things should be.”

To wrap up his visit, Aaron left our 8th graders with some meaningful advice:

“Enjoy your high school years, participate, be active, and stay involved. You don’t want to leave high school regretting that you did nothing.”

Thank you, Aaron, for taking the time to connect with our students and share your experience!
