ECC Senior and AP Art Students Experience Hands-On Creativity at Brockway Center for Arts and Technology

Senior and AP Art students at Elk County Catholic High School took their creativity beyond the classroom during an inspiring visit to the Brockway Center for Arts and Technology. The trip offered students the opportunity to explore professional ceramics and jewelry/metal studios, experiencing firsthand what it’s like to work as practicing artists.

In the metals studio, students designed and crafted their own metal ornaments, learning traditional jewelry-making techniques such as sawing, filing, and texturing. Under the guidance of skilled teaching artists, students experimented with tools and materials not typically available in the school art room, discovering new ways to express their artistic voices.

In the ceramics studio, students had the chance to throw on the pottery wheel and hand-build mini sculptures, exploring both the technical and creative aspects of working with clay. Students experienced wheel throwing for the first time, finding it both challenging and rewarding.

The visit allowed students to deepen their understanding of three-dimensional artmaking while connecting their classroom studies to real-world artistic practices. Beyond creating artwork, they also gained insight into potential future opportunities in the art and design fields.
