St. Marys Catholic Elementary School recently celebrated International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration.

STREAM classes at SMCES celebrated all week with several “dot” themed activities. Activities included dot sticker pictures, DOTS candy builds, Dot Detective Chromatography, Dot Hoop Flyers, Dot Wrecking Balls, and Dot Balloon Hovercrafts. Students worked through the Engineering Design Process and learned how to separate colors, learned about aerodynamics and how different shapes and sizes can change the way things fly, explored how force and momentum change when a wrecking ball is dropped from various heights, and demonstrated how air pressure can reduce friction and allow a lightweight object (hovercraft) to glide smoothly over a surface. Students enjoyed learning through these hands-on experiences. Our hope is that students were inspired to embrace their creativity and “make their mark” on the world.
