What a beautiful day to start our Growing Gardeners Camp!
Under the direction of Diane Gillen and her daughter, Nicky Mattivi, campers are learning how to till the soil, monitor soil health and moisture, and plant vegetables and flowers. Today, Mrs. Gillen explained how sheep’s wool from her farm in Kersey helps provide fertilizer and retain moisture for the plants. After losing some plants to local wildlife, campers are also planting Marigolds to attract pollinators and deter pests.
