In observance of Arbor Day and the 20th Anniversary of Tree City USA, the fifth-grade class at St. Marys Catholic Elementary School planted a tree at Benzinger Park. City officials also joined in celebrating the Shade Tree Commission’s anniversary.
As part of an urban forestry lesson, the DCNR, First Energy Foresters, and the Penn State Extension Office start teaching fourth-grade students how to plant their own saplings, with a follow-up on tree survival in fifth grade.
Thank you to the City of St. Marys Shade Tree Commission, Toby Herzing with the DCNR, Dave Grotzinger, and First Energy for hosting the event and helping keep our parks beautiful! 🌳🌎
