Pennsylvania Trout In the Classroom (PA TIC) is an environmental education program that teaches students (grades K-12) about the current and past impacts, management, and protection and enhancement opportunities of Pennsylvania’s watersheds and coldwater resources while raising trout in the classroom.

Throughout the year, students are introduced to the importance of watershed conservation efforts, ecosystems, habitats, natural resources, and management strategies for protecting and enhancing cold-water resources. They are also introduced to recreational opportunities where they can enjoy these resources and to the cold-water fish species that call those waters home.

Starting in January, students at St. Leo Catholic School and Elk County Catholic High School observe the life cycle of trout from egg to fingerling before releasing them in Gallagher’s Run and Powers Run in May.

We thank the Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited (PATU) and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) for the importance and education they bring to these programs, which aim to preserve and protect our ecosystems. We wish everyone good luck this weekend as trout season opens!
