St. Mary’s Catholic Middle School, which participates in the Junior Pennsylvania Envirothon, is beginning its lesson on wildlife with the DCNR as it prepares for the competition at the Elk Country Visitor Center in May. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources utilizes wildlife that passes from natural causes to educate the students on birds, mammals, wildlife ecology, conservation and management of wildlife, and issues involving wildlife and society.

This exposure to nature and how humans impact the natural world provides invaluable lessons for understanding ecosystems and our environment. This year’s “hot topic” is Roots and Resiliency: Forstering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change.

DCNR is a partner in the Pennsylvania Envirothon.
