September is a beautiful time of year for field trips! 🍁🦌
Fourth-grade students at St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School visited the Elk Country Visitor Center this week, guided by Mr. Tim and Miss Emma. The class was the first field trip group to use the newest outdoor classroom and beautiful outdoor eating area.
The class enjoyed learning about the earliest elk, elk antlers, the ivory tusks of elk, and so much more in the “Elk Basics” station. Students also took an informational hike on the “Nature Trail,” where they recognized markings on trees made by elk scraping them with their teeth, walked in places where the elk trod, and picked up many of the acorns that are snacks the elk love! Students played a game called “Oh Elk!” which explained the rise and fall of the elk population based on having enough or not enough of the basic necessities, such as food, water, and shelter. The final station for the students was the “4-D Theater” in the Elk Country Visitor Center.
