May was a busy month at ECCSS! Throughout the week, we hope to share some of our end-of-year activities and memories.

Students in Miss Coder’s first-grade classroom at St. Marys Catholic Elementary School listened to the story Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell. This work of realistic fiction is about a tiny little girl named Molly Lou Melon. The moral of the story is that Molly Lou Melon is different from other students, but that it’s okay. Her grandmother shares some wise words throughout the story to encourage Molly to stand up for herself, be true to herself, smile and be happy, and never give up.

Throughout the week, the class reviewed and learned skills such as character traits, retelling the story, and understanding the moral of the story. They put their learning into action by hosting a classroom talent show. This unique event gave the students a platform to showcase their individual talents and reinforced the story’s message of embracing one’s uniqueness and standing tall, just like Molly Lou Melon. It was a truly enriching experience!
