Last week, the 4th and 5th-grade classes at St. Marys Catholic Elementary School had a special visit from Freeze Dried Emporium as part of their S.T.R.E.A.M. curriculum.

Tasha VanSickles from Freeze Dried Emporium explained the process of freeze-dried food, the equipment needed, and the science behind it. The freeze-drying process involves removing moisture from the items to make them shelf-stable and preserve them longer. Compared to dehydrated items, freeze-dried foods retain almost all their nutrition.

After the presentation, the students were treated to some Freeze Dried Emporium products. Locally, the company carries products at St. Marys Nutrition, Calypso & Co, Elk Mountain Winery, and Chicken Hill Distillery. They hope to expand to Ridgway and Johnsonburg in the near future and are happy to support local!
