Monday’s Alumni Spotlight is Kyle Huff.

Kyle Graduated from ECCHS in 2016, Valley Forge Military College in 2018, completing ROTC, commissioned as an Army Officer, played D2 Junior College Basketball, and Syracuse University in 2020, majoring in Civil Engineering and D1 Rugby.

He is a Civil Engineer at PennDOT, specializing in traffic signal design and overseeing traffic signals in 9 counties. He also serves in the U.S. Army National Guard as an Engineering Officer, holding the rank of First Lieutenant (1LT). Kyle recently completed an assignment as a horizontal construction platoon leader and is now a Battalion Engineer Operations Officer. Kyle has worked in Puerto Rico, Kentucky, Indiana, and Missouri over the past two years.

Kyle enjoys traveling, seeing new things, and meeting new people. “I love my hometown and everything it has to offer. I hunt and fish with my dad and brother. I help my mom with renovation projects and family gatherings. I take my bird dogs out hunting and on ATV rides. I visit and care for my loving grandparents, Dutch and Agnes Wegemer, who played a big role in raising me. Kyle said I stay active by exercising daily and playing volleyball and basketball whenever possible.”

“My favorite memory from high school was watching my brother Cory Huff (Chuff) and Josh Zelinski (Fluffy) perform in the high school musical “Shrek” as Donkey and Lord FarQuaad. Cory was a 6’6” donkey! It wasn’t common for athletes to do drama clubs, but they changed that culture. Kyle said two years later, most of the basketball team was on the stage – including Coach Fernan and Coach Straub.”

“The people that influenced me the most throughout my ECC days were my basketball coaches from 3rd grade to Varsity. Those men had a huge impact on my life, and to this day, I try to carry myself the way they taught me to. I believe ECC has the best basketball program in the state, if not the country. They produce talent and love to win, but most importantly, they create men with character. One of Coach Straub’s favorite lines was, “Leave the place in better shape than the way you found it.” This included a dirty locker, an organization, a community, etc. I carry that message with me today everywhere I go. Coach Straub and every head/assistant coach below him left me in better shape than the way they found me. I also want to shout out to the teachers and staff at ECCHS. They prepared me tremendously for my future. I was, without a doubt, steps ahead of other students when I got to college, thanks to them, said Kyle.”
