St. Marys Catholic Elementary School students will work together soon to collect Halloween wrappers from their family and friends. They will collect wrapper trash from friends and family and then bring it to school for recycling through Rubicon’s Trick or Trash annual recycling and educational campaign.

This campaign is designed to help reduce the waste collected every Trick or Treat night. Students will sort, graph, tally, and/or weigh the waste collected in the STREAM class. The school will collect wrappers until the boxes are packed full. Once complete, Mrs. Skellen will ship the used wrappers to G2 Revolution in Lake Zurich, Illinois. Upon arrival, wrappers will be washed, made into pellets, and repurposed into doggie waste bags – ultimately keeping garbage out of the landfill!

We hope that by combining the hands-on activity of collecting wrappers with educational lessons and videos, students will come away from Trick or Trash feeling more informed and empowered with the opportunity to help preserve our planet!
