In celebration of the 20th anniversary of International Dot Day, St. Marys Catholic Elementary School students have been working on Dot challenges in their STEM classes with Mrs. Julie Skellen. Kindergarten through third-grade students were challenged to make candy Dot structures, towers, and the longest chain. Students and staff were then asked to decorate a Dot that will be displayed in a mural in the school hallway.
The mission of Dot Day is to celebrate creativity, courage, and collaboration. Based on Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot, the story is about a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust her abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark.”
