Professional Development

Our staff have been busy this summer attending professional development conferences so they can stay up to date on current educational resources and programs to provide a quality education for our students at Elk County Catholic School System.

The AJ and Sigismunda Palumbo Charitable Trust provided a generous grant allowing staff members from St. Leo School and Elk County Catholic High School to attend the world’s premier classical education conference this summer.

“We were fortunate that the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education held it’s annual gathering at Duquesne University this summer,” said SLS Principal Lynne Kucenski. “We were double blessed when the Palumbo Trust made it possible for us to invite our entire staff. Classical education is a traditional model based on great literature, hands-on math and science, great poetry, music and art. Christ is at the center of everything we do. Schools across the country are turning to classical in droves today, but at St. Leo we are in our sixth year as a classical school and member of the ICLE family. I’d like to thank the Palumbo Trust for the tremendous gift they’ve given our faculty, our students and our community.”

Mrs. Marlene Stubber, AP Computer Science teacher at Elk County Catholic High School participated in AP training at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

This pilot content-based training includes a group of 26 teachers from across the country and is sponsored by the College Board.
