On Tuesday, January 5th, Elk County Catholic High School was fortunate to receive a shipment of trout eggs courtesy of the Pennsylvania Trout in the Classroom Program, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission as well as the Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited. Our local PATU Chapter is the Jim Zwald Chapter. Students were responsible for preparing the aquarium for the arrival of the eggs. Senior Caitlyn Vollmer talked about her experience with the eggs: “This week our trout eggs arrived and we immediately began to sort them and prepare the tank. We first let the fish eggs acclimate in the tank water. We then sorted the dead and alive eggs into different cups. Next, we gently put the eggs into their new home in the tank. We are now ready to begin taking care of the fish and are excited to see them hatch.
