Elk County Catholic School System celebrated its annual all-system Catholic Schools Week Mass on Tuesday, January 31, at Queen of the World Parish.
ECCSS was honored to have The Most Rev. Bishop Lawrence T. Persico, J.C.L. travel from Erie to celebrate the Mass with more than 600 students from all four ECCSS Schools: St. Leo School, St. Marys Catholic Elementary School, St. Marys Catholic Middle School and Elk County Catholic High School. Pastors celebrating the Mass with Bishop Persico included Fr. Thomas More Sikora (St. Marys Church), Fr. Jeffery Noble (Queen of the World), Fr. Thomas Curry (Sacred Heart), Fr. Justin Pino (St. Leo), and Fr. Kevin Holland (St. Boniface).
Bishop Persico reflected on the value of Catholic education and used his homily to discuss the life of St. John Bosco, whose feast day falls on January 31. He was pleased to see a vibrant church filled to capacity with students, who participated as gift bearers, altar servers and lectors. The children also worked with music teacher Alyssa Wendel and QOW music director Stephen Toney to provide a choir and wonderful music ministry for the Mass.
