Adam Straub named Kreckel Enterprises Inc 2023 ECCHS Student of the Year
In late December following an Alumni Mass at Elk County Catholic High School Senior Adam Straub was presented with the Kreckel Enterprises Inc 2023 Student of the Year Award in memory of the late Lavern G. Kreckel Jr. who was a 1963 Graduate of Elk County Christian High School. Kreckel passed away in 2017 and since then the Kreckel Family honors a student in the Senior Class with this special award. The award is presented each year close to Christmas as that is a very important time for the Kreckel family.
After graduating from ECCHS in 1963 Kreckel went on to enjoy a career as a machinist and tool and die maker working for 45 years at Powder Metal Products (MPP Washington Street Division). He also co-owned a supporting Machine and Secondary Shop for many years employing many local people who made careers in the industry. 26 Years ago in 1997 he co-founded Kreckel Enterprises Inc. with his son Vern who owns and runs the company today.
Winners of the award include Kendra Smithbauer 2018, Isaac Gradl 2019, Maddison Taylor 2020, Olivia Matha 2021, and Holly Buttery 2022.
Adam who is a member of St. Marys Parish is very active at Elk County Catholic, and currently plays Basketball for the Crusaders which was Kreckel’s favorite team! He is also involved in Boy Scouts, and is an altar server at Sunday Mass at his parish.
Adam is the son of Pete and Amy Straub, and he is pictured here with his parents and his sisters Sami Straub, and Katie Straub, along with his grandmother Sylvia Straub, and family members Steve and Ann Marie Straub, Madison Marzullo, and Vicki Straub. The Kreckel family is very happy to welcome Adam to the winner’s circle, and to have the Straub family a part of their family. The families have shared a long and very wonderful friendship over the years, and wish to thank everyone at Elk County Catholic for their help in the presentation of the Award. Many thanks to Kennedy Signs, Taylor Glass Specialists, Dave’s Pro Shop, and Ion Technologies for their help with the award materials.
