Congratulations to the ECCHS Class of 2021! ECCHS faculty and staff bid farewell to the Seniors last Thursday as they took their last walk out of school.

Elk County Catholic High School celebrated the Class of 2021 during their traditional Baccalaureate Mass and graduation ceremony held on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Queen of the World Church in St. Marys for the 12:30 p.m. Mass followed by the commencement program. Brooke Bauer, senior class president introduced the ceremony’s two student speakers Valedictorian Karalyn VanEerden and Salutatorian Joseph Wolfe.  James Gallagher, Diocese of Erie superintendent of Catholic schools, was the guest speaker for the ceremony.

Danielle Fledderman, ECC vice-principal, announced the outstanding members of the Class of 2021 who received various academic awards for excellence and leadership achievement. The awards were presented by Sam MacDonald, Elk County Catholic School System president, and John Schneider, ECCHS principal. This year’s subject award winners include: art – Ngoc Nguyen; business – Jordan DePrator; English – Olivia Matha; language – Megan Gordon; mathematics – Joseph Wolfe; science – Karalyn VanEerden; social studies – Mason McAllister; technology – Gavin Leckey; theology -Vivian Mader; campus ministry – Gina Carnovale; and all subjects – Mark Kraus and Jared Smithbauer.  The Gold Cross Award was presented to Julia Aikens and Samuel Kaul for consistently pursuing excellence in the three facets of mind, body and spirit.  Olivia Matha and Joseph Wolfe received the Sprit and Essence of ECC Award for consistently demonstrating acts of Christian kindness and service to the school and community.  The Bishops Award for academic excellence was presented to Karalyn VanEerden, valedictorian.  The recognition and announcement of graduates were read by teachers Lisa Knight and Bonnie Reinke with presentation of diplomas by Schneider and MacDonald.  Nine of the class’ 36 seniors graduated with honors. Three achieved Sum Cum Laude which is a quality point average of 96.5% or greater and six achieved Magna Cum Laude which is a quality point average of 93.5% or greater.

Fr. Justin Pino, ECCSS vice-president for Catholic mission acted as the Mass celebrant while Fr. Kevin Holland, ECC campus minister, offered the homily. Senior class members provided readings including those by Mark Kraus, Mary Cerroni and Gina Carnovale while prayer intentions were read by Jack Bauer and Brooke Bauer.  Additional Mass participants included Stephen Toney, musician and Maura Lecker, ECC Class of 2022, as cantor.

Class of 21 parents, if you would like your child’s baby picture and All About Me Posters that were on display in the foyer for awards night last Wednesday they will be available for pickup in the ECCHS office this week 7:30-3:30 pm Tuesday-Friday. If you are unable to pick up between those times please contact the Advancement Office @ 814-834-1480 x 234.
