Elk County Catholic High School is proud to announce that the following students have been accepted into the ECCHS National Honor Society for the 2019-2020 school year.

From the class of 2020:  Christopher Brennen, Carly Renwick, Dominique Wells and Isaac Wortman.

From the class of 2021:  Gina Carnovale, Meghan Gordon, Mark Kraus, Olivia Matha, Vivian Mader, Karalyn VanEerden and Joseph Wolfe.

Students who are academically eligible for admission to the NHS must submit an application for acceptance highlighting their commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.  The applications are reviewed by the ECC Faculty Council and the students were  recently informed of their acceptance through a Google Meet session.  Due to the current school closure and stay at home order, ECC will not be able to host an induction ceremony for the newest inductees.  Inductees from the ECCHS Class of 2021 will have the opportunity to participate in the induction ceremony scheduled for the spring of 2021.

With respect to the newest ECC National Honor Society inductees, ECCSS President Sam MacDonald noted, “I am saddened that I was not able to congratulate all of this year’s nominees in person, as the NHS induction ceremony is one of my favorite events on the school calendar. The Four Pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character align very closely with our efforts to educate the whole student in mind, body and spirit. National Honor Society induction is a major achievement for these young men and women.”

MacDonald said that the school closures related to Covid-19 highlight how important these character traits are going to be moving forward.

“Who ever thought we would be in a situation like this?” MacDonald said. “I think we can be very proud of how our community has responded, from first responders and medical professionals to schools, businesses and community groups. At ECC our faculty and staff hardly missed a beat, switching to remote learning almost immediately. Our students were a part of that, too. The students being inducted into NHS this year have an incredible track record of doing high level work, doing the right thing under pressure and using their talents to help others. There will be other crises once this one passes, and these students have shown that they will rise to the occasion no matter what challenges our community faces in the future.”

“I thank these students for their commitment, and I thank their parents for allowing us to partner with them in developing such a rich set of talents,” MacDonald added. “The current situation shows how important it is to cultivate young men and women of this caliber. I look forward to seeing them continue to grow as deeply caring members of their families, their communities and their church. I know these kids, and I know that we can count on them.”

The ECCSS Community joins in congratulating all of the newest members of the Elk County Catholic High School National Honor Society.
