Last week, the fourth and fifth-grade classes at St. Marys Catholic Elementary celebrated their annual Fine Arts Night. It was held as part of the school’s STREAM initiative (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, Math), and much planning over a several month period went into coordinating this Disney-themed event for the ECCSS community.
Led by the students, the evening began with the praying of the “Glory Be” in Latin. A very entertaining performance of 101 Dalmations followed. Preparation for the performance was a joint effort – the stage’s backdrop was created by the students at St. Marys Catholic Middle School while several Elk County Catholic High School students perfected the hair and makeup of the stars of the show. Many parents also helped with costumes and props.
Following the play, all in attendance gathered in the “gallery” (AKA the cafeteria) to browse the priceless works of art the students created. Each student chose a Disney character, researched and provided a background on it, and then made a depiction of the character using various media.
What a great event highlighting the talents of our students! Thank you to all who helped coordinate the evening, especially fourth-grade teachers Mrs. Michelle Smith and Mrs. Janet Cahilly, fifth-grade teachers Miss Ann Marie Inzana and Mrs. Amanda Bosnik, art teacher Mrs. Cathy Zore, and principal Mrs. Debbie Slay.
